Life is too short .....

To hold grudges
To not tell the person who you love how you feel
To make time for friends and family
To not let the little things go
To not be accepting
To not dance in the rain
To laugh a lot

It saddens me when people don't realize that we only have one life to live and to be happy for those we care about.

Below is a list of advice I have been compiling. I feel that since my blog is titled "Advice from Alissa" it is only necessary that I share some advice.

Disclaimer: While I am giving this advice, I am human and sometimes do not follow my own advice. My hope is that by posting it I will be more true to myself.

1. Watch Jeopardy. Chances are you don't know everything and will learn a thing or two.
2. Use a code on your phone. You never know who will try to read your personal text messages.
3. For every ONE negative thing you say (regardless of what it is about) say TWO positive things.
4. When an issue arises, talk through it, immediately.
5. When washing clothes, transfer to the dryer as soon as the washer is done, don't let them sit in the washer as they will begin to smell mildewy.
6.  Use to-do lists and cross off items as you get them done.
7. When you find an item you really want, write it down, think about it and if you still want it in 30 days then buy it... (29 days until I can buy my sofa table for my entry way :) )
8. Be old school and get on your hands and knees to wash your wood floor. It not only makes it look better, but it is a good workout.
9. Before purchasing new furniture, use painters tape to tape out the area in your house, to see if you are sure of the size of the piece and where it will go.

“If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway…
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.”

My CoWorkers are Awesome

I really do have the best job and co-workers around. We are all doing awesome with our contract to only eat out twice a month, and have been having great lunch dates in my office. Here is a video clip of my two favorites playing a nice little tune during one of our lunches.

Jeopardy! Plus some !!!

We are keeping to our New Years goals (okay okay I need to take more pictures). In all honesty I have not taken any with my actual camera, but have with my iPhone and iPad mini, now I just need to figure out how to upload them from my iPad mini... Anyway's we are doing so far so good on keeping our new goals. I was reading an article discussing bringing your lunch to work, it said the first week was tough, the second week gets a little better, and by the third week it becomes just a habit. I hope this happens not only with brining my lunch to work, but also with working out, blogging, sticking to a budget and a weekly meal plan.

Wednesday is D's birthday, and we celebrated this weekend a little. We began with some margs on saturday afternoon, then came home and watched Jeopardy. Yes, Jeopardy! DVR is my very best friend and D's also! We are loving the fact that we can record tv! After that we went to Houlihan's for some drinks then to Lazer lanes for some galactic bowling! I will be posting pictures soon of our night! Then on Sunday we went to D's parents and out to Red Lobster for some yummy shrimp and ended the night playing Harry Potter Scene it. We lost again for the third time in a row :(. We are going to brush up on the Harry Potter books and movies.

Last but not least, my blog is posted "Advice from Alissa". As this is the title I feel I should be getting better about giving you all advice. So I am going to try and give some advice every now and then. My advice for you now is to smile often, laugh much and enjoy the little moments in life. I know I am trying to do this more and more each day.

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years! I hope everyone had a wonderful new years eve! Derek and I had a very low key evening, sitting on the new couch at home :). Here is a picture of D asleep at 7:00 pm on NYE

He did make us steaks prior to falling asleep! We started our New Year's Resolutions Goals yesterday, and hope that they will make us each better people. Yes, I set some goals for myself as I hope to make lifestyle changes this year. Here are my goals:

1. Live on a budget
2. Follow a weekly meal plan
3. Blog once a week
4. Journal each day
5. Take more pictures
6. Be more positive and less negative
7. Attend church once a month
8. Work out three times a week
9. Don't let the little things in life bug me
10. Only eat lunch out twice a month

Like I said these are more goals and lifestyle changes, to help me be the person I want to be. I hope that I can keep my goals/resolutions for the year. Here's to 2013 to be the best yet to come!
